An annual fee is worth considering only when the benefits you actually use exceed the fee. Do not count benefits you are unlikely to redeem. Lounge access, miles, cashback caps, and promo discounts should be valued conservatively.
The simplest break-even formula is annual fee divided by effective reward rate. If a card has a ₱3,000 annual fee and your realistic net reward rate is 1%, you need about ₱300,000 annual spend to break even before considering other benefits.
Annual fee waiver rules matter. Some issuers waive automatically after a spend threshold, some require a call, and some do not waive. Always check the current terms before applying.
